Meet The 2010-2011 GBYR Candidates
|
|
Dear GBYR Member -
The following message is from the four candidates running for the 2010-2011 GBYR Executive Board. Message as follows:
_________________________________________
To the GBYR members,
We would like to declare our candidacy for the positions of Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary and Treasurer on the GBYR Executive Board. We are choosing to run as a ticket for executive board on the principals of continuing to grow the organization in following the examples of the current and previous administrations.
Specifically, our goals for the upcoming year will be:
To continue to grow the organization's membership numbers specifically with respect to the number of dues paying members.
To continue to provide networking opportunities for young republicans to meet other like-minded young republicans in the Greater Boston area and with other young republicans in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
To continue to encourage and develop leadership opportunities for members to get involved with the GBYR organization and run or become a part of the committees which make up the GBYR.
To continue to support and provide opportunities for members of the GBYR to get involved with Republican candidates who are running for office and to encourage and foster those YR's who wish to run for public service offices themselves.
It is based on these principals that we ask the support of the GBYR members in supporting our candidacy for the open positions on the GBYR executive board.
Regards,
Barry Dellecese (candidate for Chair)
Nick Dowd (candidate for Vice-Chair )
Erin Maloney (candidate for Secretary)
Nathan Ulrich (candidate for Treasurer)

Why Join the GBYRs?
|
Nine Questions and Answers about the Greater Boston Young Republicans. Have a question about who we are and what we do? Then email |
secretary@gbyr.org
to inquire!
1. Who are the Greater Boston Young Republicans?
The Greater Boston Young Republicans (GBYR) is a group of young Boston-area professionals aged 18 to 40 interested in political activism and networking with like-minded individuals. The GBYR is a part of the statewide YR organization, the Massachusetts Federation of Young Republicans (MFYR), and the Young Republican National Federation (YRNF). The YRNF remains the nation's oldest and largest youth political society.
2. How often do you meet?
The GBYR holds monthly board and committee meetings on the first Thursday of the month. Social events are held at least quarterly. We also volunteer for local community service projects and participate in local and national Republican campaigns. There are numerous opportunities to become involved at the state and national YR level for interested members.
3. What type of work do you do?
Members of GBYR are involved as campaign managers, treasurers, and the like for local Republican candidates. In addition, our members serve as officials within the Massachusetts Republican party and are often candidates themselves. Outside of the political arena, members work in both the public and private sectors and donate their time to charitable organizations.
4. What are your long-range goals?
Our stated purpose is to promote the election of candidates with conservative principles and values. In order to meet this objective, the elected Board of Officers is working diligently to create an efficiently running organization and facilitate opportunities for its members to become involved. By building these two arms of the organization we hope to grow our membership, strengthen our party, and continue to support potential candidates.
5. What have previous members done in Politics?
Many GBYRs become elected officials and leaders within the Republican Party. In fact, a current Young Republican serves as head of the MassGOP. In addition, numerous GBYRs hold positions in the state and National YR organization.
6. How can I become more involved?
Interested individuals may email
Chair@gbyr.org
or visit
http://www.gbyr.org
to learn more about becoming involved. Our monthly members-only newsletter provides updates on the activities of the Executive Board and committees. In addition, other electronic notices keep our members and interested individuals informed of events happening throughout the Greater Boston area.
7. How does someone become a member?
Individuals interested in becoming members of the GBYR can join online at
http://www.gbyr.org
(using PayPal) or at any of the events we host throughout the year.
8. Why should I join?
Membership with the GBYR includes many benefits such as receiving price discounts or free entry to various GBYR/YR events such as networking events, socials, trainings, guest speaker events or candidate meet and greets. More importantly, membership allows you to vote on the next GBYR Executive Board, changes to the GBYR Constitution, and be selected as a GBYR delegate to attend the Massachusetts Federation of Young Republican Annual Meeting and Election. In addition, networking within the GBYR provides members the opportunity to meet Republican officials and candidates, as well as the opportunity to gain experience working on political campaigns. Beyond these types of experiences, the development of lasting friendships with GBYR members is another benefit.
9
. Why do you have different membership levels?
We offer several ways to support the GBYR and join as a member. Note that every dollar raised through membership drives is dedicated to GBYR programming. Further, all offices are volunteer positions. The greatest value is the "Romney Class" which offers the member a vote on the Executive Board and the ability to attend select events for free.

Dear Young Republican,
|
The next few months bring exciting opportunities for us as young republicans here within the Commonwealth. In particular, the Massachusetts Federation of Young Republicans will be hosting their annual State Convention in May. All GBYR members are encouraged to attend as this will be both an interesting and educational day. At this time, many political guest speakers and social events are being planned. Details are still being fleshed out by the MFYR Executive Board, and once they let us know, we will forward them out to you.
Finally, thank you for both your interest and participation within the Greater Boston Young Republicans. Working together by attending political events or supporting candidates in any way we can as members of the Greater Boston Young Republicans, we continue to strengthen the young republican grassroots infrastructure here within the Metro Boston area. Dear Young Republican -
This month the Greater Boston Young Republicans have shown Massachusetts that we are an active group in this region! Over the past few weeks, several YRs have been highlighted in the newspapers. In addition, two young republicans of the GBYR organization have recently filed papers and declared their candidacy to run for state office. Brad Williams is running for State Senate for Suffolk and Norfolk Districts and Patrick Brennan is running for State Representative for the 4th Suffolk District.
Young Republicans are also working hard to continue to grow the conservative grassroots movement by hosting recruiting events or chairing City of Boston Republican Ward Committees to identify and inform republicans of the Metro Boston area that Young Republicans do exist and that we can help make a difference.
A lot of hard work has been accomplished by Young Republicans of this organization and more work is currently underway to continue our efforts. Stay involved and most of all, stay informed! We look forward to seeing you at our next event!
All the best from the Greater Boston Young Republican Executive Board.
